Key Facts:

  • Wynn and MGM have each donated more than $1 million to aid groups
  • At least a half dozen Las Vegas hotels have announced substantial discounts for those in need.
  • Thousands of evacuees already have made their way to Las Vegas with more expected

With hundreds of thousands of Los Angeles residents still under evacuation orders or warnings, Southern Nevada is embracing its California neighbors with open arms:

  • Resorts World is offering 35% off of rates to evacuees
  • Treasure Island has discounted rooms to $79 for LA residents
  • South Point has a reduced rate, no resort fees, and you can bring your pet
  • Virgin has 50% off and free parking
  • Fontainblue also has special rates available if you call.

Other casino companies have decided to just pony up the cash, with both Wynn and MGM donating over $1 million and Wynn even matching employee contributions. Flutter Entertainment and FanDuel also announced over $250k in relief funds and stated that they have over 400 workers in the impacted area.

We are committed to ensuring our employees are safe and making sure the community has the resources it needs to support the heroic efforts of our first responders.” Amy Howe FanDuel, CEO, Press Release

Longer Term Relocation

With 40,000 acres burned and more than 12,000 homes destroyed so far, and fires still burning, Las Vegas will likely feel the effect of this widespread devastation for months or even years as many short-term evacuees won’t have a home to return to.

While average rental prices in the Las Vegas Valley remained flat in 2024, with median prices near $1400 a month, an influx of temporary new residents while Los Angeles rebuilds is almost a certainty given their relative proximity—four hours of driving time—and the lower cost of living.

Even before the fire, the exclusive Palisades area, hardest hit by this tragedy, had median rents of $12,000 a month. As a whole, Los Angeles has median rents of around $2800 a month.

While closer suburbs of LA will house the bulk of those who need to relocate, higher prices and lack of available units will mean that both the Las Vegas rental and housing market will likely surge in interest.

Las Vegas and its residents have long been known for their resilience and generosity. And this tragedy has once again highlighted the true spirit of Nevadans—compassion and charity. The city stands as a safe haven for those in immediate need, and as a place of respite for those seeking a longer-term refuge.
