The World Series of Poker (WSOP) Tournament of Champions will be held at the Commerce Casino & Hotel for a second successive year in 2025. The world’s biggest poker room will host the prestigious tournament, plus 18 WSOP Circuit ring events, from May 8 to May 24, 2025.
Last year, the Los Angeles venue hosted 559 WSOP tournament winners at the valuable freeroll competition. It was won by Dong Meng, who collected $200,000. Meng had earned his place in the field by winning Event #89 at 2023’s Annual World Series, the $1,000 Flip & Go No-Limit Hold’em tournament.
The prestigious $1 million Tournament of Champions freeroll is exclusive to players who won a WSOP bracelet or Circuit ring from June 2024 to May 2025. Qualifying players include event winners on the WSOP Circuit plus the 2024 WSOP, 2024 WSOP Europe, 2024 WSOP Paradise, and leading live online poker sites WSOP.com and GGPoker.
Non-Stop Action at the World’s Biggest Poker Room
Over 600 players will be eligible to play 2025’s freeroll, making the value of a seat in the tournament worth a ballpark of $1,650. Last year, 100 players earned some part of the purse – with a minimum ‘cash’ worth $2,400.

“We are happy to return to The Commerce Casino & Hotel for the WSOP Tournament of Champions and our 15th consecutive $1 million freeroll,” said WSOP CEO Ty Stewart when giving event details. He added: “With a $2 million guaranteed Circuit Main Event, WSOP satellites, and non-stop action at the world’s biggest poker room, this is like the opening ceremonies for the 2025 WSOP.”
The final table of the 2025 Tournament of Champions will be live-streamed to poker fans worldwide, with organizers promising full details that will be announced in the coming weeks.
Poker Freerolls Keep On Rolling
2024 was the year of the freeroll with December’s WPT World Championship at Wynn Las Vegas featuring a record-setting $5 million freeroll that supported the World Poker Tour’s newest site, the USA exclusive: ClubWPT Gold.
The largest freeroll in history fell to 36-year-old Texan Chase Bricker, who collected $1 million for besting a field of 1,457 players. Mark Owens finished 503rd in the same event – he was the lowest player to ‘cash’ and pocketed $1,000 for his efforts.
Valuable poker freerolls have taken place at the Commerce Casino & Hotel before. Its first notable competition was February 2005’s Professional Poker Tour. This $500,000 tournament featured ‘top heavy’ prizemoney distribution. One hundred eighty players took part, with just six earning cash prizes.
Erick Lindgren took the lion’s share with a $225,000 first prize. Despite acquiring over $10 million in poker winnings in 2015, he filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy with a cumulative debt load of over 10 million dollars and available assets of less than $50,000!
