Kansas Verses Eagles Super Bowl Is Set to Be a Betting Smash
Super Bowl 2025 could be a high-scoring game with record-betting turnover looking likely.
Key Facts:
- Two hundred million people worldwide are expected to watch Sunday’s Super Bowl.
- Kansas is seeking to create history by becoming the first to record a Super Bowl three-peat.
- $23.1 billion was gambled on the 2024 Super Bowl.
- 2025’s Super Bowl appears on track to set new betting records.
This weekend will be the biggest in US sports. It is, of course, Super Bowl weekend. Over 100 million Americans and 200 million people worldwide are expected to watch Sunday’s clash between the narrow favourites, the Kansas City Chiefs, and the 2018 winners, the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Kansas City Chiefs took the Super Bowl in 2020 and were beaten finalists in 2021. Since then, the team has landed the 2023 and 2024 Super Bowls. It now seeks to create history, becoming the first to record a three-peat.
2024/25 has been a fantastic season for the Chiefs, who were 15-2 in the regular season. In the playoffs, they beat the Houston Texans and then the Buffalo Bills to make their fifth Super Bowl trip in the last six years.
The Eagles, seeking to avenge 2023’s narrow 38-35 Super Bowl defeat to Kansas, finished the regular season with a strong record of 14-3. Victories over Green Bay in the Wild Card Round and LA Rams in the Divisional Round followed.
Philadelphia booked their Super Bowl place and fired a warning shot to its old foe with a thumping 55-23 Conference Championship verdict over the Washington Commanders. Its points haul was the most in a playoff game since Jacksonville defeated the Dolphins 62-7 in a January 2000 Divisional Round game.
Stats Point To Points Line Being Broken
The UK’s leading sports betting sites are predicting a tight game. The Chiefs may be 4/5 favourites to prevail, but the handicap spread only gives the underdogs a +1.5 point start. The total game points line has been set at 48.5, with 10/11 available on both higher and lower scenarios.
This year’s contest will take place in New Orleans Caesars Superdome. The venue has hosted seven Super Bowls in the past. History shows four of the most recent five contests were won by scorelines totalling 55 points or more.
Super Bowl finals played in New Orleans Superdome
- Super Bowl XII (1978): Dallas Cowboys 27, Denver Broncos 10
- Super Bowl XV (1981): Oakland Raiders 27, Philadelphia Eagles 10
- Super Bowl XX (1986): Chicago Bears 46, New England Patriots 10
- Super Bowl XXIV (1990): San Francisco 49ers 55, Denver Broncos 10
- Super Bowl XXXI (1997): Green Bay Packers 35, New England Patriots 21
- Super Bowl XXXVI (2002): New England Patriots 20, St. Louis Rams 17
- Super Bowl XLVII (2013): Baltimore Ravens 34, San Francisco 49ers 31
The Kansas City Chiefs averaged 29.8 points per game during the regular season – placing them among the top teams in scoring terms. The Philadelphia Eagles averaged 27.2 points per game. If these factors are combined, the 48.5 total game points line appears primed to be bettered.
A Smashing Time for Super Bowl Betting
Las Vegas’ Allegiant Stadium was the backdrop of last year’s Super Bowl between Kansas and the San Francisco 49ers. Its location, in North America’s traditional gambling capital, Nevada (until 2018, the only state that allowed sports betting), was considered a contributory factor in the game generating an estimated $23.1 billion in betting turnover.
According to figures released by the American Gaming Association, gambling-happy Americans ultimately gambled an estimated $150 billion on sports in 2024 – a 24% increase on the previous year.
And so, with gambling on sports now legal in a record 39 US states, including Kansas and Pennsylvania, and organisations such as Entain plc – the parent company of Ladbrokes and Coral – stating the Super Bowl sat second on its 2024 bet/volume list, 2025’s Super Bowl appears on track to set new betting records.
