Casino Company Donates £5K to Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance

A casino in Scotland has marked the first anniversary since it opened its doors by making a significant donation to a local charity.

Merkur Casino opened its Aberdeen branch a year ago and is celebrating in style by handing over a cheque worth £5,000 to Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance (SCAA). The donation comes at the perfect time for SCAA, which is coming up to its busiest period of the year, and the charity recently launched a major fundraising campaign as a result.

Mark Schertle, Merkur Casino UK’s chief operating officer, said he was “delighted” to be able to support such an important cause with the charitable donation. He said:

“Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance performs an invaluable service, and we are proud to support their life-saving work. This donation is our way of expressing our appreciation for the support we have received from the Aberdeen community over the past year and giving something back.”Mark Schertle, COO of Merkur Casino UK

‘Incredibly Grateful’

SCAA needs more than £5 million in funding every year in order to service its needs, with the Merkur Casino donation making a notable dent in that target.

Community fundraiser for the charity Kate Loades said the organisation is “incredibly grateful” for Merkur Casino’s generosity in donating £5,000 to the cause. She said:

“Donations like these are essential for maintaining our operations and ensuring that we can continue to provide rapid response medical care to those in need. This contribution will have a direct impact on saving lives.”Kate Loades, Fundraiser

The charity organisation SCAA operates two helicopters – both of which are EC135-T2is – as well as a brace of rapid response vehicles. It works in partnership with the Scottish Ambulance Service.

Merkur Fundraising Continues

Like a lot of casino companies, Merkur works hard to give back to the community where it can. Earlier in the year, the company held a charity football day, which raised in excess of £12,000.

The Milton Keynes-based gaming firm held a competition for both men’s and women’s teams at Tattenhoe Sports Pavilion in June, with Regal Gaming Technologies the men’s winners and Foleshill Women’s team also winning.

Merkur Casino operates more than 230 UK adult gaming centres, which include casinos in locations across the country, such as in Aberdeen, as well as a wide range of bingo clubs.

The firm’s charitable arm has donated more than £75,000 to dozens of charities this year.
