Poker’s New Record Hangs in the Balance

Guinness World Records has many poker-related records. Phil Laak playing poker for a continuous 115 hours is one of the better-known records listed by the reference book. The Irish-born poker professional set the record at the Bellagio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas in 2010. Over 117,000 people watched the attempt live online.

Last week, Guinness World Records announced another new poker-novelty record had been broken. The respected database, with over 53,000 listed records, released a video of his feat to show the world that Italy’s Rocco Mercurio had successfully balanced 255 poker chips on a single finger.

Guinness World Records’ social media feeds featuring footage of the new record quickly clocked up a million views. Rocco Mercurio is no stranger to the spotlight as he now has 26 World Records for feats such as ‘the most mugs held in one hand’ and ‘the fastest time to apply ten surgical masks.’

Travis Stitch is more of a poker specialist. The Canterbury Park (Minnesota) poker dealer has five Guinness World Records. His achievements include building a stack of 340 poker chips, dealing a deck of cards in 15.35 seconds, throwing 64 playing cards into a target in one minute, and shuffling 32 chips into a single stack!
