Microgaming Continues to Break Records as CEO Coleman Departs

Microgaming, the software company credited with developing the world’s first online casino software in 1994, will have a new CEO at its helm in 2022. After three-and-a-half years in charge, John Coleman steps down from his role on 31 December 2021. His replacement is Andrew Clucas, the company’s former COO.

In a company statement, Microgaming said: “John has driven Microgaming’s strategy and vision, diversified its product offering and elevated its position in the global gaming market.”

Confirming Coleman will remain within the group in a non-executive role, the announcement continued: “An open and empathic leader, John has placed employee wellbeing, safer gambling and corporate social responsibility at the forefront of his decision-making.”

Records Are Broken

It may be all change at the top, but for slot players at online casinos using Microgaming software, 2021 has been a case of business as usual.

Microgaming’s progressive jackpot network is the largest in the world. It has now paid out more than €1.5 billion in prizes and in 2021 it created its 100th jackpot millionaire.

That landmark was surpassed in June when an Estonian player won €6.59 million playing the iconic Mega Moolah slot. But in 2021 Microgaming did not just break their own records…

The classic stocking-filler Guinness World Records 2022 shows the new world record for an online slot win now stands at €19,430,723.60. The record was broken on April 27th by a Belgian also playing the millionaire making slot, Mega Moolah.

Incredibly, this massive win came just two weeks after another Microgaming slot, Book of Atem: WowPot, handed a UK-based 32Red customer a €17.53 million (£15.2 million) jackpot prize.

At the start of December, Microgaming confirmed they had awarded their tenth jackpot-slot prize of €1 million or more. The latest big winner netted €3.95 million playing the ancient Egyptian themed Mega Moolah Goddess progressive slot.

What Will 2022 Bring?

It is not only the size of online-slot jackpots that continues to grow at Microgaming. Their portfolio of 850-plus games is also expanding. On average, the Isle-of-Man based company introduced 13 new games every month during 2021.

Branded slot games Jurassic World and Game of Thrones are powered by Microgaming software. The world-famous Playboy brand has also collaborated with the game-maker.

Will more big names follow in 2022? Will the Microgaming portfolio of games exceed 1,000 by the end of 2022? Will there be more than ten instant millionaires created through Microgaming progressive jackpot slots during the year ahead? Only time will tell.
