Key Facts:
- The Curacao Gaming Authority released its new responsible gambling policy
- It’s looking for feedback on the policy from people working in the industry
- The policy includes various updated measures to help prevent gambling-related problems
The Curacao Gaming Authority (CGA) published its updated responsible gambling policy on February 21st. It includes a series of requirements that B2C operators should follow in order to reduce the chances of customers developing addiction and other problems related to gambling.
Some areas addressed in the new policy include self-exclusion tools, player self-assessment procedures, age verification systems and player protection measures. The CGA hopes the new policy will have a positive, lasting impact on customers.
Implementing the Policy and Monitoring It
The CGA will begin monitoring the effects of the policy in four months. However, it’s stressed that operators need to start acting on it now. A spokesperson for the CGA has said the following about this:
Regardless of when monitoring begins, the operator must immediately implement as many mandatory requirements as possible and initiate any necessary arrangements, including technical development, to meet the remaining minimum requirements within the transition timeline.– Curacao Gaming Authority spokesperson, CGA Discusses New Policy Implementation, InterGameOnline
The CGA has also explained why it’s so publicly called for feedback on its new responsible gambling policy:
In accordance with Article 12.1(4) of the LOK, the CGA consults with representative organisations when drafting policy. As yet no such organisations have presented themselves and, as a result, has not been designated yet, we are inviting the broader sector – including current and potential license holders – to share their views. Given the urgency and critical importance of this policy to promote responsible gaming practices and protect individuals from gambling-related harm, it is essential to proceed with finalisation. This approach of broader consultation ensures that a wide range of stakeholders can contribute meaningfully.– Curacao Gaming Authority spokesperson, CGA Discusses New Policy Implementation, InterGameOnline
It seems that because of the nature of the policy and what it focuses on, the CGA is keen to gather feedback as soon as possible. It’s keen to determine whether the new policy is effective enough or whether more changes must be made.
