To learn more about the different roulette terms and what they're all about - read ahead for my mini-roulette dictionary to find explanations for the most common roulette terms. (And a few that are perhaps, not so common.)

The following roulette terms and words are used at the roulette table.

American Wheel

The American roulette wheel has a double zero and a single zero - Unlike the European roulette wheel that only has a single zero.

Column Bet

A bet on a column of numbers - in French colonne.

Complete a Number

To cover a single number with chips - including every line and corner of that number.

Corner Bet

A bet placed in the corner of a number - thereby wagering on 4 numbers.

Croupier

The person who handles the roulette wheel on behalf of the casino.

Double Zero

The American wheel has a number called double zero and a single zero.

En Plain

A Bet on a single number - also called a straight bet.

En carré

A bet on 4 numbers - also called a square bet.

European Roulette

A French roulette wheel with only one zero.

First, second and third dozen

A bet on 12 numbers - In French called - douzaine- permièr, moyenne, dernière.

French Roulette

A European roulette wheel with only a single zero.

Gamblers Fallacy

Another word for the Martingale double up system.

High/Low Bet

In French Passe/Manque.

'In Prison' Rule

Inside Bet

A bet on any numbers on the table. Including 5 and 6 number bets, corner bets, split bets, straight bets and trio bets. The opposite of a outside bet.

La Partage Rule

A special rule found in some casinos online and on some casinos in Europe. Visit my roulette odds
page and look at the bottom of that page for an explanation of this rule. This rule favors the player.

Line Bet

A line bet covers two street bets.

Martingale

No More Bets

In French - Rein ne va plus - stop placing more wagers please.

Odd/Even Bet

A bet on a odd or even number - in French pair/impair.

Oscar's Grind

A gambling system - read more about Oscar's Grind here.

Outside Bet

A bet on a color - or a bet on odd/even or High/Low or a column bet - or a dozen bet. All the bets placed at the edge of the roulette table.

Pair/Impair

French for odd/even.

Red/Black Bet

A bet on a color - In French rouge/noire.

Rein ne va plus

French for - no more bets please.

Single Zero Wheel

A French roulette wheel with only a single zero.

Six Number Bet

A bet on a line - also called a 'transversal simple'.

Split Bet

A bet on two numbers - on the border - also called 'a cheval'.

Square Bet

A bet on 4 numbers (without zero) - also called 'en carré'.

Straight Bet

A bet on a single number also called 'En Plain'.

Street Bet

A bet on 3 numbers - also called 'transversale pleine'.

Transversal Plaine

A bet on 3 numbers - also called a street bet.

Trio bet

A bet on 3 numbers.

Zero

The roulette have a zero on it.

Zero Chips

In French - Zero Jeton(s).

Zero Jeton(s)

French for zero chips.
