Blackjack Ballroom Review

Blackjack Ballroom:

Microgaming-powered Blackjack Ballroom Casino is part of the Casino Rewards Group and has been operating since November 2000, which makes it a reasonably long-standing player in the reasonably new world of online gaming.

The website itself (which must be visited by those wanting to play) is nothing extraordinary, but does the job of telling a player what to expect before they play. The usual sections on banking, game preview, support etc. are also present and as such the website does what it needs to. However, in my opinion the website could do a little more to entice the player - after all the website is a key element in attracting new players.

For those that decide that.

Blackjack Ballroom Casino is for them, the initial casino file size is a respectable 5.44mb, which should not take long to download regardless of connection speed. However, only a minimum number of games are initially available - with others being downloaded in the background later on. For those who think downloading anything is too much, there is also a flash version of the casino available. Remember though, for the best experience the casino has to offer, the download version is definitely the one to play.

I installed and ran the casino for the first time and clicked the 'register' button to sign-up. The usual form filling is required, but this takes no longer than a few minutes. Having completed the registration processed without problem, I then headed to the cashier.

Blackjack Ballroom offers a multitude of deposit options and I made my usual $100 deposit via NETeller. As a new player, I was entitled to a 40% sign-up bonus - up to $400. I opted not to take it though, as wagering conditions are always present with bonuses and I wanted to be able to cash in ahead if I was a winner! As another word of warning, the Casino Rewards group take a very dim view of those who play only with a bonus, so it is not wise to jump between this group's casinos only playing with bonuses - you may find yourself on a bonus blacklist.

So, with my bankroll at a healthy $100 level I had a look around at the games available to play. Although the casino is called Blackjack Ballroom (and there are indeed a decent number of blackjack games available), a wealth of other games are also available - over 240+ according to the casino website. All the games are grouped by types; such as slot or table - which makes it really easy to navigate to the precise game wanted. The game preview feature at this casino is also good - before a game is even downloaded a player can see the rules of the game along with a small picture. This is a great feature, especially for those on a dial-up connection. There's nothing worse than spending ages downloading a slot game only to find it's not what you expected!

Although I usually always play some blackjack at each casino I review, this time I decided to play some other games - somewhat ironic considering this is Blackjack Ballroom! From what I could see though, a number of blackjack games are playable with betting limits of $1 - $2000. This is a pretty good range and should satisfy the low-roller and the big stake players alike. There's also a multi-hand game allowing stakes of up to $2000 on between 1 and 5 hands - a high-roller could bet up to $10,000 on a single round of cards - wow!

I sat down at the Baccarat table, a game which requires no real skill. Unfortunately, it does require a pretty decent bankroll; with minimum bets of $10 required to play. The table maximum is again high being, as it is, $500. I stuck with the minimum and thankfully my $10 'player' bet was a winner. Although I can see the attraction with this simple game, I soon realized that it can really wipe out a small bankroll and so I left the game with my bankroll at just under the $100 level.

A wide range of other table games are available at Blackjack Ballroom, and new casino games are added all the time. Even less popular games such as Sic Bo and Three Card Poker are all available, so no matter what you like betting on, you'll probably find it here. I decided to play a little Caribbean Stud Poker and hit a very nice three-of-a-kind winner. With my ante being $6 the $60 pay off I received went someway to making up the Baccarat losses I incurred!

Feeling lucky I also checked out the roulette table and doubled my usual bet amount by sticking $30 on various numbers. Although my first spin was a loser (with 3 appearing), the number 20 spinning in next awarded me with a $144 win and with my bank balance now at $216 I had a small smile on my face! Incidentally, the standard of game play on all of Blackjack Ballroom's games is great - top notch graphics and great sound effects really do make the games fun to play. There are some good features included in the games as well, which also contribute to the game attractiveness - for example, in roulette a player is told the percentage of the table they have 'covered' with bets.

Although I was tempted to spin some more, I have experienced before what a killer roulette can be when the numbers don't come in, so I quickly moved over to the Video Poker section of this casino. Again, the variety of games is great with Microgaming adding to the selection all the time. Classics such as Jacks or Better sit next to Bonus Pokers and even progressive payout machines. Pretty much all the games are also available in multi-hand format - bet on 1, 4, 10 or even 50 hands at once. In fact, at the time of playing a new 100 hand game (Aces and Faces) had just been added so it looks like even bigger games are just around the corner!

I was up and down during my Video Poker play, although I did get a nice full house hand for a $70 payout (on a $10 bet with a successful double up) on one line Joker Poker. I also played some 10s or better Power Poker as well as some 50-hand Jacks or Better. No real huge winners appeared though, so not much to report. Of course, the quality of the Video Poker games was again excellent. Similarly, nice touches such as an 'auto play' feature and a hand analyzer really contribute to the gaming experience.

My balance at this point was still at a healthy $180 mark, and so I decided to give the slots at Blackjack Ballroom a really good play. I normally shy away from these money gobblers, but with a decent amount of money in my account, I decided to see what big wins I could hit!

As reported with the other game types, the slot selection at this casino is again huge with every type of game from classic three reel slots to multi-line games being available for the slot fan. I started playing Reel Thunder, a 5-reel game, and although I lost $50 with hardly any win showing, I then landed a $56.50 win to bring my balance back to where it was. There's also a Blackjack Bonanza slot which, as it was Blackjack themed, I thought might be a good game considering this was Blackjack Ballroom. Unfortunately I was wrong. In fact, this game had graphics which, in my opinion, were probably the poorest I had seen from a Microgaming slot.

Thankfully, the other games I played were all great and more than made up for this. Brilliant graphics are used on the majority of slot games, and bonus rounds (such as with Witch's Wealth) are really something to see. I played on the Double Whammy game which was enjoyable because of the wild multiplier symbol. The $50 winner I got on the 5-line Fortune slot also made me smile.

All in all I had a pretty good time on the slot games, and actually played for almost an hour without losing anything massive. A good number of decent sized wins kept me playing which I think is always a good sign of a casino. I ended up with about $160 in my account and, although this was not a massive win, did mean I could cash in with at least a little profit.

Cashing in was not a problem, although players should note the relatively high minimum withdrawal amount of $50. There's also a slight delay in cash in processing - my NETeller withdrawal took about 2 business days - but for many this will be seen as a satisfactory processing time. Although I was not asked to submit any ID documents, as with all casinos, players may from time to time be asked to confirm their identity before a first withdrawal is processed.

As a last test of the casino, I contacted customer support with a query about cashing in (not a genuine need to call them, but a good excuse nevertheless!). Unfortunately the live chat facility of the website seems constantly busy. Similarly, emails to the support center do take a while to receive a response. However, telephone support is there for urgent queries, although I was a little disappointed to see free phone numbers listed for only 5 countries. As such, while support is available, I did feel this was an area that could be improved upon.

All in all I would say that Blackjack Ballroom is a reasonably good casino. The website itself is nothing to shout about. However, for a casino with a good number of games where top-quality software is used, I think Blackjack Ballroom fits the bill. Similarly, banking processes seem good, although as stated bonus players should really make sure all terms and conditions are met before cashing in. I was also a little disappointed by support. Nevertheless, this is definitely a trusted casino and for those looking for something new, I would definitely say 'give it a shot and see' - who knows, you might like it!
